About

Rebecca is a reporter and writer living in London. Much of the work you’ll find here is stuff published elsewhere with a few extras thrown in. Less of a blog, more a collection of essays and features articles digging deep into under-reported issues.

Rebecca’s freelance work has been published by the Guardian, the New Statesman, the Washington Post, the New Internationalist, the Independent and others. She is currently writer in residence at Lacuna magazine, a human rights magazine based at the Centre for Human Rights in Practice at Warwick University. She has also worked as an editorial assistant and special correspondent at the Washington Post’s London office, and as a business journalist writing, editing and reporting on private finance initiatives for the Partnerships Bulletin magazine.

In 2011 Rebecca was awarded a Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship to report on migration and asylum in Greece, Spain, France, Italy and the UK. In spring 2012 Rebecca wrote Gardens, a collaboration with photographer Christina Theisen. The essay illuminates the experiences of environmental activists in London fighting to save the city’s biodiversity, while tackling social inequality.

Rebecca’s reportage on migrants and refugees was shortlisted for the 2012 George Orwell Prize for Political Writing (blog category) and the 2013 Speaking Together Media Award.

Rebecca’s collection of work on austerity and the impact on people’s lives was shortlisted for the 2015 George Orwell Prize for Political Writing, this time in the journalism category.

In March 2016 Rebecca was shortlisted for the Georgina Henry Women in Journalism Prize.

As well as her journalism, Rebecca also edits reports for the Women’s Budget Group (a group of feminist academics, economists, activists & policy experts) and is a member of the management committee. She also worked on the London School of Economics’ Gender, Inequality and Power Commission.
